Budapest is worthy of the spa town's name and world-renowned for its unique treasures: thermal springs, medicinal waters, beaches, wonderful historic baths and more than two thousand years of bath culture. Its 118 thermal springs provide a total of 70 million liters of healing water a day to baths, swimming pools and drinking fountains. More than half of the rising mineral water - 40 million liters - is warmer than 30°C.

Bath in Turkish times. This famous bath was built when Budapest's major bath policy was implemented (1912-1918). The art nouveau building has retained the glory and elegance. In addition to the thermal bath, the Gellért has an open pool, a pool with artificial waves in a park, and a convertible effervescent bath - an architectural rarity. The existence of the Gellért contributed to Budapest being awarded the title of international spa city' in 1934, and it was a venue of the first International Bath Congress in 1937. This Turkish, that is steam bath, giving a special experience for travelers, is a precious memory of the Turkish occupation (named after its owner in the 19th c.), which functions today as well. The centre of the most beautiful Turkish part of the building, to which Baroque and Classicist extensions were made, is the cupola hall with an octagonal pool. The thermal baths are 39 and 30 degrees hot, the cold water pool is 26 degrees, while the hot air and steam chambers are 60-70 degrees. The water is good for people suffering from locomotor diseases, but is also recommended for those who wish to relax only.

Has been a bath since the 15th century. The octagonal pool and the eight-columned vaulted hall was built by Sokoli Mustafa, the pasha of Buda in the 16th c. Lukács Spa and Swimming Pool is one of the oldest spas in Budapest. In the 14th century, the Knights of St. John were cared for by sick people. Later, the Knights of Rhodes and Malta established a bath here, and during the Turkish occupation a Turkish bath was built on the same springs. After a complete renovation, modern Lukács opened its doors in 1884, but still retains its 100-year-old interior design. The entire spa, including the indoor and outdoor pools, was renovated again in 1999, and today offers all the amenities that a comfortable XXI. century baths. Lukács was visited by many actors, poets and artists, many of whom were also given plaques.
